About Jason Maurer

Jason has called the Front Range home for the past 20 years. Originally from Phoenix Arizona, surprisingly, Jason grew up playing ice hocky and skiing. After only a few trips up to Colorado as a teenager he got hooked on the beauty and adventure of the Rocky Mountains and immediately moved to Boulder, Colorado after serving in the military.

Jason has been skiing in the backcountry since 2004, and started guiding professionally in 2012. His hobbies include digging snow pits, submitting field reports, and spending time with family, his wife Christy and 2 young girls. When not skiing untracked powder Jason spends his summers alpine climbing in RMNP and taking mountain biking trips to Moab with the Fam!

Jason is most passionate about passing down his knowledge and experience to new users to the sport. From teaching avalanche education to creating teachable moments on a multi pitch rock climb, Jason thoroughly enjoys connecting with people and building lasting relationships that were forged in the mountains.

Testimonials

  • I thoroughly enjoyed the AIARE 1 class that I took! Jason was very professional and incredibly experienced which gave me confidence and kept me engaged during the course. He shared his experiences from 20 years of backcountry skiing and 10 years as a guide and avalanche educator and related them to what conditions we were seeing while touring. He encouraged students to ask questions and answered them thoroughly. Based on my experience with TMG, I would absolutely recommend this course to others looking to increase their knowledge of avalanche safety and risk management.
