Joel grew up in Maine, where a passion for the outdoors eventually led him to climbing. Since then, climbing has taken him across the Americas from establishing first ascents on the sea cliffs of Newfoundland to tackling the rugged granite walls and remote peaks of Patagonia. Closer to home, you'll most often find him exploring the towering sandstone of Red Rock and Zion, the alpine wilderness of the Wind River Range, and the iconic peaks of the Tetons.
Today, Joel serves as General Manager of The Mountain Guides, where he leads daily operations and shapes guiding programs across the company. Before moving into his current role, he managed our Desert Programs.
When he's away from the office, Joel is happiest in the mountains whether climbing a long alpine route, exploring a new crag, or sharing the day with guests. What he enjoys most about guiding is the people: building lasting relationships, helping clients achieve meaningful goals, and sharing unforgettable experiences in wild places.
Joel is a certified AMGA Rock, Alpine, and Splitboard Guide, as well as an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor. He also holds a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification, is a Leave No Trace Trainer, and has completed a Professional Level II Avalanche Course.
