Mia Mueller
Guiding since 2023
Nevada
Utah
A passionate mountain guide, Mia pursues her love of the outdoors year-round: rock climbing in Red Rocks and Moab, UT (spring/fall); mountaineering and alpine rock climbing in the Cascades (summer); and ice climbing in Ouray, CO (winter).
Background:
Mia's guiding journey began with a pivotal two-week climbing trip to Red Rocks, NV, in March 2023. Immersed in climbing, she discovered a desire for a life more connected to the natural world, a contrast to her previous role as a software engineer in Seattle. By May, she had taken a huge leap of faith: she left her stable job, traded her apartment for the open road, and embraced a less conventional, yet deeply fulfilling, lifestyle living out of her vehicle. That winter, Mia applied to be a full-time mountaineering guide, and by May, she was attending guide training on Mount Baker in the Washington North Cascades. This path, from software engineer to AMGA-trained mountain guide, has been a testament to following her passion.
Guiding Philosophy:
Guiding is so much more than tying into a rope and teaching technical skills; it’s about meeting each student where they are and creating a supportive environment where they can feel safe, both physically and emotionally. Mia prioritizes creating a learning environment where questions are encouraged, and vulnerability is embraced.
Being outdoors brings out the best in her: discipline for long days and physical demands, patience and care in her interactions with students, and gratitude for her body’s abilities and the surrounding beauty. She believes the mountains and canyons offer a unique opportunity for self-discovery and connection—to nature and to our inner selves. Her guiding style is rooted in these values, emphasizing emotional awareness and a deep respect for each individual’s journey.
