About Izzy Lazarus

Izzy grew up in the heart of NYC but found a passion for climbing when she moved to Vermont for college. While balancing in-classroom education and outdoor adventure, Izzy started working for a local climbing gym and guiding service and for her college’s outdoor program. That road led her west to work for the Colorado Outward Bound School, teaching mountaineering, skiing and rock climbing programs year round. After several years of extended wilderness expeditions, she has found herself in the Tetons to take people on their high alpine adventures. Izzy has a passion for education, conversation, ecology and mountain adventures. In some circles she is known as TBM (Tiny But Mighty!)

Testimonials

  • Had a great trip in the Tetons. Our guide Izzy is a rock star. Patient, but motivating and honest. Took a personal interest in our experience. Even did some extra climbing with me the morning after the climb. Endless energy and kindness. Would recommend her to anyone. Still hoping to show her up on the slopes. Izzy and JHMG really deliver a great experience. Thanks for the adventure.

  • The 4 day Grand Teton trip wirh JHMG is a great opportunity to ascend this wonderful mountain. The guides, high camp, and one day of training will give you the confidence to complete this ascent successfully. My guide Izzy was very professional, safe, knowledgeable, and friendly. I will request for her to guide my next trip with JHMG.

  • Izzy was great. Good balance of keeping pace reasonable for our capability and pushing us.

  • Izzy and Kevin were both great. They helped prepare us mentally for each day ahead, kept us safe, and were enjoyable to spend time with. Not to mention, Izzy is a great cook in the back country. My experience on Gannett makes me excited for an attempt on Granite with JHMG in a few weeks.

  • Always professional, always personable, always safe, always considerate. They take the time to develop a plan with the client that creates a fun and challenging experience; also, they provide valuable teaching moments along the way. I look forward to using their services again.

  • Wow! What can I say? Thank you! I never thought I’d climb again and you guys gave me the confidence and encouragement to do it again. Today’s hike was long, but the view well worth it. Thanks for sharing a part of your life with me. Thanks again.

  • Climbing The Grand with JHMG was one of the most incredible experiences in my already rich life.  I came into the trip a bit apprehensive about the climbing and exposure, but the training and guides not only made me feel safe and confident, they also taught me skills to improve future climbing experiences.  I expected crazy beautiful views and fun times and you guys delivered both along with an unexpected level of service, coaching, and camaraderie.  Keep up the great work and we’ll see you on future climbing and mountaineering trips.

  • Excellent climb with top-notch guides. Safety was the number one consideration. Our group of four all summitted, two had no climbing experience. Highly recommend!
