Summer Stories from the High Country
Hello from The Mountain Guides! We couldn’t be more excited to bring you an update from our summer season across our venues in Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana. Below you’ll find company and conditions updates as well as learn what we have in store moving into August!
Wyoming
Here in the Tetons, we’re happy to report back with great early season conditions. With nearly endless sunshine, warm weather days, and snow melt that’s outpacing the norm by one to two weeks, our guides and climbers are achieving their summit and climbing dreams from the Grand Teton to Irene’s Arete to the Guide’s Wall.
Â
This warm weather has created exceptional conditions on the Grand. If you’re heading out for a summit trip with our guides, you’ll be happy to know that we’ve been enjoying dry trail conditions and dry climbing all the way to the summit. Our clients have also been loving their stay at our Corbet High Camp on the Grand Teton with the amenities it offers. If you haven't been to our camp you get unparalleled access to luxury at 11,000 feet. Wake up to hot coffee, snack on charcuterie boards, fall asleep in pre-prepped tents with extra cushion pads, and relax in our lawn chairs as you take in the incredible views of Nez Perce and Jackson from atop Garnet Canyon. We've also outfitted camp with all new harnesses, helmets, and summit packs courtesy of our friends at Black Diamond. It's one of the only trips in the US where you don't have to carry most of the equipment required for the ascent up to an advanced base camp. It's a pretty special experience!
Â
As we head into July, we’ve got a busy month in store. You’ll see our guides summiting the Grand, topping out on routes at Curtis Canyon and the Hoback Shield, introducing new climbers to different peaks in GTNP, and even trekking out to the states highpoint, Gannett Peak. You’ll find us at Black Diamond, our new partner store on Pearl Street, outfitting our climbers and checking gear before heading out on our various adventures. So came say hi and check out this years kit and get any beta you need. Coffee or seltzer water available while you hang out!

Having fun during Summer 2025 Guide Training
ColoradoÂ
As for sunny Colorado, we started the season strong, guiding climbers on rock and alpine terrain on world-class crags and on infamous alpine routes around the front range. We guided the classic climbs on the Flatirons and made our way up hidden gems that we’ve come to love in our 20 plus years of operation around Boulder. And we woke early in the morning to guide Rocky Mountain National Park’s iconic summits like Longs Peak, Hallet Peak, Sharkstooth, and the Petit Grepon. The most noticeable update being that snow is no longer a hindrance to the approaches to these climbs making for easy travel to the base!
In July and August, you’ll find us in Boulder Canyon introducing gym climbers to the incredible world of outdoor climbing. You’ll see us teaching single pitch climbers the skills and systems for multi-pitch routes. With August being the best time for alipine climbing in Colorado you’ll see us guiding long alpine routes in Rocky Mountain National Park, topping out on the Cathedral Spire’s Sharktooth, rappelling down the Petit Grepon’s gripping descent, and summiting the iconic Longs Peak or the more remote Mount Yipson. Finally, we’ll be out training with our guides as they fine-tune their skills in these incredible rock and alpine venues to take what we do and make it even better!

Montana
And finally reporting back from Whitefish, we’ve had an exciting start to the summer. This June we took climbers to the various crags around the Glacier area. Families visiting the Park loved coming out for a day to explore the 500 plus routes at the Stone Hill Climbing Area. With incredible quartzite cracks, steep slabs, views of the Koocanusa Reservoir, and climbs ranging from 5.7-5.13d there was truly something for everyone. The climbing and views are very reminiscent of Lake Louise in Canada but much closer to home! We also headed out to Flathead Lake Lodge every Thursday to take guests out climbing at the local crags. And finally, we taught skills to climbers at the beginning of their recreational career and those moving onto multipitch across Stone Hill and Kila Crags.
Â
As we move into August, we’re excited to gear up for the start of our Granite Peak climbing season. From the end of July through mid-September, we’ll guide climbers to the top of Montana’s highest peak, sitting at 12,799’. If you’re hoping to climb all 50 of the state’s highest peaks, we’re here to help you prep and climb one of the most technical. Prepare for snow and rock climbing as well as long trekking to reach the summit and we’ll be here to help guide you along the way! The snow bridge is nearly melted out making for fast and efficient travel up the large ridge that makes up the mighty east ridge.
