Utah offers two of the most distinctive mountain landscapes in the American West, and The Mountain Guides operates in both. In Moab, our guides lead rock climbing, canyoneering, and desert tower expeditions on the sandstone walls and slot canyons of the Colorado Plateau. In the Wasatch Range near Salt Lake City, we offer AIARE avalanche education and advanced ski mountaineering camps in some of the best backcountry ski terrain in North America. As the only AMGA-accredited guide service in Moab, we bring the highest professional standard to every Utah program.

Moab — Desert Climbing & Canyoneering

Moab is a world-class climbing destination offering everything from beginner-friendly sandstone crags to committing desert tower climbs and the legendary crack climbing of Indian Creek. Our Moab programs include full and half-day guided climbing, multi-pitch tower pursuits (Castleton Tower, Ancient Art), canyoneering through Moab’s slot canyons, a big wall climbing clinic (The Hook), a Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Combo, and Women’s Climbing Weekends. Season runs fall through spring (October–April).

Wasatch Range — Backcountry Skiing & Avalanche Education

The Wasatch Range near Salt Lake City is renowned for consistent, cold, light powder and accessible backcountry terrain. Our Wasatch programs include an AIARE Level 1 Avalanche Course, Companion Rescue, and a multi-day Ski and Splitboard Mountaineering Camp for advanced backcountry skiers ready to push into steeper, more technical terrain. Salt Lake City International Airport is 30–45 minutes from Wasatch backcountry access. Winter season (December–May).
