Moab Canyoneering
Overview
Looking for some family fun, or just want to take a break from crack climbing? Then, we invite you to come explore some of the most dramatic slot canyons in the world with JHMG. With over 20 years of experience guiding these canyons, let us share these desert gems with you and your family.
Pritchett Canyon is a technical canyoneering route that is suitable for those looking for an athletic hike with dramatic scenery. Total time required form trailhead to trailhead is approximately 4 hours. This loop requires technical gear.
In normal conditions this canyon might require some minor wading. The route contains some elevation gain along with narrows, pools arch viewing and access to the behind the rocks wilderness study area. A mandatory eighty foot rappel leads into a huge amphitheater. For those who are adventurous, a second free hanging 100-foot rappel takes you to the ground and back to the Pritchett Canyon trail. This loop is approximately five miles car to car.
This family friendly canyon is best described as a fun hiking route with a short section of slot canyon. Total time required form trailhead to trailhead is approximately 4 hours.
In normal conditions this route contains little or no flowing water. The route does contain an infinity edge pool to wade that is approximately 20-feet long to 50 foot rappel that is required to complete the route. Â The scenery on this canyon is dramatic.

While hiking into the area canyons, you will run into an amazing desert environment that is hot, sticky, and scratchy one minute then at the next corner you are wet or involved in a high angle adventure. The following list is a recommendation of what to wear to be comfortable to enjoy your trip.
JHMG provides all technical equipment: harness, helmets, rappelling devices, carabineers, and waterproof bags. If your trip/class includes a canyon with a big swim, you will need to provide your own PFD and wet suit. Please apply sunscreen prior to your canyoneering departure, as it helps keep the water in the canyons clean – re-apply freely after swimming.

Located in southeast Utah, Moab is approximately 236 miles from Salt Lake City, 355 miles from Denver, 115 miles from Grand Junction and 458 miles from Las Vegas. Most trips and classes leave from the RED ROCK BAKERY, 74 South Main Street across the street from the McStiff’s Plaza. Meeting times are determined by the season. Please contact 435-260-0990 for departure times. Many of our climbing sites are fairly close to town, while Indian Creek, Castle Valley and Fisher Towers take about an hour to get to. Once there however, there are miles of routes with close proximity to one another, making the walking time minimal when compared to the amount of climbing that can be achieved in a day.  Climbing around Moab is usually about a 10 to 20 minute drive  from downtown. The approaches are very close to the car and routes are located close together.
