The Mountain Guides Montana offers year-round guided programs from our Whitefish base — summer rock climbing on uncrowded crags, winter avalanche education with field days at Blacktail Mountain and the Whitefish Range backcountry, and professional wilderness medicine certifications. As the only AMGA-accredited guide service in the Whitefish area, we bring the same professional standard that has defined The Mountain Guides since 1968.
Summer — Rock Climbing
Our private guided climbing trips take you to quiet crags in the Stillwater Canyon, Koocanusa Reservoir, and Stone Hill areas — all within easy driving distance of Whitefish. Half-day and full-day options available. All climbing gear provided. Perfect for families (ages 5+), first-timers, and experienced climbers exploring Montana’s hidden climbing gems near Glacier National Park.
Winter — Avalanche Education & Backcountry Skiing
Our Whitefish winter programs include AIARE Recreational Level 1 and Level 2 avalanche courses, Companion Rescue, Backcountry Essentials for resort skiers making the transition, Women’s Rec L1 Avalanche Courses, and our one-of-a-kind yurt-based immersion course in partnership with Great Northern Powder Guides. Field days at Blacktail Mountain Resort, Whitefish Mountain Resort, and the Canyon Creek backcountry.
Year-Round — Wilderness Medicine
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certifications and recertifications, in partnership with Wilderness Medical Associates. Essential credentials for backcountry professionals, outdoor educators, and serious recreationists. Our instructors bring real mountain rescue experience to the WMA curriculum.
Getting Here
Glacier International Airport (FCA) is 15 minutes from Whitefish. Amtrak’s Empire Builder stops daily. Whitefish is 30 miles from Glacier National Park’s west entrance.
