City of Rocks
America’s Premier Granite Climbing Area
City of Rocks National Reserve in southern Idaho is widely regarded as one of the best granite climbing destinations in the country. Over 750 documented routes wind up weathered spires, knobs, and walls of some of the oldest exposed rock in North America. The climbing ranges from beginner-friendly friction slabs and bolted sport routes to committing multi-pitch trad lines on dramatic formations like Castle Rock, Elephant Rock, Steinfeld’s Dome, and the Lost Arrow Spire. With drive-up camping among the spires and approaches measured in minutes, City of Rocks delivers an immersive climbing experience that’s hard to match anywhere in the West.
