Backcountry Skiing in Utah — Guided Skiing & Avalanche Courses in the Wasatch

The Wasatch: Greatest Snow on Earth

Utah’s Wasatch Range is legendary among backcountry skiers for consistent, cold, light powder — there’s a reason the license plates say “Greatest Snow on Earth.” With thousands of acres of skiable terrain within 30 minutes of Salt Lake City and a dense concentration of avalanche paths, couloirs, and alpine bowls, the Wasatch is one of the most popular and productive backcountry skiing destinations in North America. The Mountain Guides offer professional instruction and guided programs in the Wasatch for skiers and splitboarders looking to build their backcountry skills in world-class terrain.

Our Utah Skiing Programs

AIARE Level 1 Avalanche Course — The Wasatch: Earn your AIARE certification with field days in real Wasatch avalanche terrain. Our hybrid format combines online learning with focused field time, making it easy to certify on a long weekend trip to Salt Lake City. AMGA-accredited instruction.

Wasatch Ski & Splitboard Mountaineering Camp: An advanced multi-day camp covering rope systems, steep skiing technique, and alpine travel in the Wasatch’s most demanding terrain. For experienced backcountry skiers and splitboarders ready to push into bigger objectives.

Season & Getting Here

Utah’s backcountry season runs December through May. Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is a major hub with direct flights from most US cities, and Wasatch backcountry access points are 30–45 minutes from the airport.
