Hiking & Canyoneering in Utah — Guided Slot Canyon Adventures in Moab

Moab’s Slot Canyons & Desert Terrain

Moab sits at the heart of Utah’s canyon country, where millions of years of erosion have carved intricate slot canyons, natural bridges, and dramatic sandstone corridors through the Colorado Plateau. Canyoneering here means navigating these narrow passages on foot — rappelling into hidden amphitheaters, squeezing through narrows, wading through pools, and hiking across stunning desert terrain that most visitors never see. The Mountain Guides are the only AMGA-accredited guide service in Moab, and our canyoneering programs are designed for adventure seekers of all experience levels.

Our Utah Canyoneering Programs

Moab Canyoneering: Full-day and half-day guided canyoneering trips through Moab’s slot canyons. Routes range from beginner-friendly introductions with short rappels and easy hiking to committing technical descents through deep, narrow gorges. All technical gear (harness, helmet, ropes, rappel devices) is provided.

Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Combo: Experience the best of both worlds in a single day — morning canyoneering through a desert slot canyon, afternoon rock climbing on Moab’s sandstone. A perfect way to sample everything Moab has to offer with one guide.

Season & Getting Here

Canyoneering season runs spring through fall (March–November), with the best conditions in spring and fall when temperatures are moderate. Flash flood risk requires professional judgment — another reason to go with a guide. Moab is roughly 4 hours from Salt Lake City and 5.5 hours from Denver.
