Paul  was born in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. and raised in the cornfields of Iowa.  “I didn’t know about mountains until I came to the Tetons to work in the summer of 2005,” says Paul. Paul’s first climbing experience was that year on the East Face of Teewinot. “We didn’t make the top, and an unplanned bivouac was the bittersweet consolation.”

After college, Paul worked in education. Then…he discovered the National Outdoor Leadership School.  “I decided to try teaching folks “real world” skills like belaying, rather than writing.”

Paul’s favorite climbing experience was climbing the NE Couloir on the Grand Teton. “I started climbing at sunset and watched the sunrise on top while drinking ‘morning’ coffee.”

When asked what he loves about being a professional guide, Paul remarked, “I enjoy being outside with people who are spending their vacations doing something fun and challenging.”

Paul has been hard at work pursuing his AMGA certifications, and in 2016, Paul successfully passed his AMGA ski exam, making him a fully certified IFMGA Guide.

Congratulations Paul!!
