Our courses utilize terrain at Whitefish Mountain Resort, Blacktail Mountain Resort, and the Canyon Creek backcountry area. We offer multiple course formats to fit your schedule and learning style — from traditional 3-day classroom courses to hybrid online/field programs and immersive yurt-based courses run in partnership with Great Northern Powder Guides deep in the Whitefish Range backcountry. Our professional instructors are dedicated to helping you build confidence in assessing and managing avalanche risk.
Montana AIARE Course Options
AIARE Recreational Level 1 (Classroom & Hybrid): Choose from a traditional 3-day format with an in-person classroom day at Blacktail Mountain Resort, or a hybrid format with self-guided online learning + evening session + 2 field days near Whitefish Mountain Resort. Both formats build a strong foundation for safe backcountry travel.
Companion Rescue: A focused one-day course at Blacktail Mountain covering transceiver search, probing, and strategic shoveling in realistic rescue scenarios.
Women’s Recreational Level 1: The full AIARE Recreational Level 1 curriculum in a supportive, women-focused learning environment. Taught by experienced female and non-binary instructors.
