Wind River Range — Guided Alpine Climbing & Gannett Peak Expeditions in Wyoming

Wyoming’s Wild Heart

The Wind River Range stretches 100 miles along the Continental Divide in western Wyoming, containing some of the most remote and spectacular alpine terrain in the lower 48. With seven of Wyoming’s highest peaks, over 40 active glaciers, and thousands of alpine lakes, the Winds are a mountaineer’s paradise. The Cirque of the Towers — a dramatic amphitheater of granite spires including Pingora, Wolfs Head, and Warbonnet — is considered one of the finest alpine rock climbing destinations in North America. The Mountain Guides have been leading climbing expeditions in the Wind Rivers since our earliest years, and our AMGA-accredited guides know these remote mountains intimately.

Our Wind River Programs

Wind River Backcountry Rock: Multi-day alpine climbing expeditions in the Cirque of the Towers. Classic granite routes on Pingora, Wolfs Head, and other spectacular formations. Remote wilderness approaches, backcountry camping, and some of the finest alpine rock climbing anywhere.

Gannett Peak Expedition: Wyoming’s highest summit (13,804’). A multi-day wilderness expedition combining long backcountry approaches, glacier travel, and technical climbing. For strong, motivated mountaineers.

Season & Access

Wind River climbing season runs July through September, with the most reliable conditions in late July and August. Multi-day wilderness approaches are required — expect 2–3 days of backpacking to reach the climbing. Trips typically start from trailheads near Pinedale or Lander, Wyoming. Jackson Hole is approximately 4 hours away.
