About John Michael McGinn
Born and raised in Tennessee, John Michael developed a passion for climbing at a young age exploring the beautiful sandstone bluffs and boulders of the southeast. After finishing up school at Sewanee: the University of the South, he decided to head west and landed in Jackson, WY where a new playground awaited him. John Michael soon discovered the joys of powder skiing and never looked back. Since then John Michael has honed his skills in the Tetons, exploring its steep couloirs in the winter and abundance of quality alpine climbs in the summer. He has been lucky enough to experience the steep skiing culture of the Alps, explore the desert rock of Morocco, and continue to develop a sense of community here in the Tetons. John Michael is actively pursuing his AMGA certifications in the ski, rock, and alpine disciplines. When he is not guiding or teaching avalanche courses, you can find him working at the local farmer’s markets with Slow Food in the Tetons or wandering around the numerous backcountry streams the Tetons have to offer.
